Case Study #1 β€” Porch & Steps

Mississauga 1990s Porch β€” Jewelstone Charcoal Flagstone

πŸ“ Mississauga, ON Β· Erin Mills Β· Spring 2026

Area
140 sq ft
Duration
3 days
Investment
$3,400
Replacement Quote
$8,200
Savings
$4,800

The Problem

The homeowner's original 1990s concrete porch had developed hairline cracks running along the front step, surface spalling near the railing posts, and 25 years of stain build-up. Two replacement contractors quoted $7,500–$8,200 for full demo and re-pour.

Our Approach

The slab was structurally sound β€” settling and rebar were fine. Resurfacing was the right call. We:

  • Pressure-washed and ground the entire surface to open the concrete pores
  • Routed and filled every crack with polymer crack repair
  • Rebuilt the spalled edge of the front step with structural overlay mortar
  • Applied Jewelstone in a custom charcoal flagstone stamp pattern
  • Sealed with frost-resistant UV-stable topcoat (3-year warranty)

The Result

What used to be a cracked, dated porch is now the most visually striking feature of the home's facade. The flagstone pattern reads as natural stone from the street. Two winters in, zero cracking, zero peeling.

"We get compliments on it every single week. Looks like real flagstone, finished in 3 days, no demolition, and the price was thousands less than the replacement quotes we got." β€” Sarah M., Mississauga homeowner
Case Study #2 β€” Pool Deck

Vaughan Pool Deck β€” Slip-Resistant Sandstone Reveal

πŸ“ Vaughan, ON Β· Maple Β· Summer 2025

Area
720 sq ft
Duration
4 days
Investment
$9,800
Replacement Quote
$25,000+
Savings
$15,200

The Problem

15-year-old stamped concrete pool deck around a kidney-shaped pool. The original stamping had faded to a uniform grey, the sealer had failed, and most importantly the surface had become dangerously slick when wet β€” a safety issue with two young kids in the family.

Our Approach

This is exactly the kind of project where resurfacing dominates replacement. Replacement would have meant tearing out the deck, damaging the pool coping, and 2–3 weeks of unusable backyard. Instead we:

  • Diagnosed condition: structurally sound, no major settling issues
  • Cleaned, ground, and acid-etched the existing stamp pattern
  • Repaired three small cracks and one spalled edge near the pool steps
  • Re-stamped over the existing surface with a tighter sandstone pattern
  • Mixed slip-resistant aggregate into the topcoat β€” critical for pool decks
  • Sealed with premium UV/chlorine-resistant urethane

The Result

Brand-new look, dramatically safer underfoot, and the pool deck was usable the day after we finished. Family was swimming again the same week.

"Two other contractors told us we needed full replacement. Artisan Coat saved us over $15,000 and it looks better than new. The slip-resistant finish was a game-changer for the kids." β€” David R., Vaughan homeowner
Case Study #3 β€” Microcement

Toronto Master Ensuite β€” Seamless Warm-Grey Microcement

πŸ“ Toronto, ON Β· Leslieville Β· Winter 2026

Area
180 sq ft
Duration
5 days
Investment
$7,200
Tile Alternative
$11,500
Result
Zero grout

The Problem

Homeowners had finished a major reno but couldn't agree on a master bathroom finish. They wanted a high-end spa look, hated grout lines, and didn't want porcelain panels (too cold, too uniform). They asked us about microcement.

Our Approach

Microcement bathrooms are a craft project β€” done right, they last decades and look like nothing else. Done wrong, they fail at the shower waterproofing or develop hairline cracks. We followed our full waterproofing protocol:

  • Substrate prep: skimmed the existing concrete board with bonding primer
  • Full liquid waterproofing membrane on shower walls and floor
  • Fibreglass mesh reinforcement at all corners and the curb
  • Two base coats of microcement, hand-trowelled
  • Two finish coats in custom-mixed warm grey (matched to the vanity)
  • Three coats of premium polyurethane sealer, food-grade safe

The Result

A completely seamless, grout-free bathroom in a warm minimalist grey. The custom tint coordinates perfectly with the white oak vanity and brushed brass fixtures. The clients booked us again two months later for their basement floor.

"Absolutely stunning. Professional, on time, and the seamless finish is exactly what we wanted. Worth every penny." β€” Jennifer L., Toronto homeowner
Case Study #4 β€” Driveway

Brampton Two-Car Driveway β€” Warm Grey Textured Overlay

πŸ“ Brampton, ON Β· Springdale Β· Fall 2025

Area
620 sq ft
Duration
3 days
Investment
$7,500
Replacement Quote
$19,800
Cracks Repaired
11

The Problem

Original 2002 concrete driveway with 11 visible cracks, two areas of surface spalling near the garage apron, and minor settling along the front edge. The homeowners had received three quotes β€” all for full demolition and re-pour, all over $18,000.

Our Approach

This was a perfect resurfacing candidate. The structural integrity was fine β€” only cosmetic and surface damage:

  • Diamond-ground the entire surface to remove old sealer and contaminants
  • Routed and grouted all 11 cracks with structural polymer
  • Rebuilt the spalled garage apron with overlay mortar
  • Applied a textured broom-finish overlay in warm grey
  • Sealed with frost-resistant penetrating sealer (rated for GTA freeze-thaw)
  • Installed thin saw-cut control joints to direct future thermal movement

The Result

A driveway that looks brand-new at less than 40% of the replacement quote. Two winters in (this project was completed in Fall 2025), zero new cracking, sealer still bonded.

"Replaced quotes ranged $18k–$24k. Artisan Coat resurfaced the same driveway for $7,500. Two winters later, zero issues." β€” Vito C., Brampton homeowner
Case Study #5 β€” Botched Job Rescue

Markham β€” Fixing a Failed Stamped Concrete Job

πŸ“ Markham, ON Β· Unionville Β· Spring 2025

Area
280 sq ft
Duration
4 days
Investment
$5,800
Failed in
2 winters
Now
2 yr Β· holding

The Problem

Homeowner had paid another contractor $4,200 just two winters earlier for a stamped concrete front entrance. By the second spring it had cracked across the main pad, the sealer was peeling, and large chips were lifting at the edges. They reached out hoping there was a fix short of starting over.

Our Diagnosis

This is the most common failure pattern we see β€” and it's almost always the same root cause: the contractor skipped surface prep. The overlay didn't bond. Cold weather and moisture finished it off.

  • No crack repair on the original slab before overlay
  • No diamond grinding β€” old sealer was still on the substrate
  • Wrong sealer for Canadian freeze-thaw

Our Approach

We did what should have been done the first time:

  • Removed the failed overlay completely with grinders
  • Repaired the underlying cracks properly
  • Diamond-ground the original slab to fresh concrete
  • Applied a bonding primer rated for outdoor use
  • Stamped a new ashlar slate pattern in soft grey
  • Sealed with frost-resistant urethane (3-year warranty)

The Result

Two years later, still flawless. We've now built a small specialty around fixing botched stamped concrete jobs across the GTA β€” about one in five of our projects.

"Artisan Coat diagnosed exactly what went wrong, prepped properly, and redid it correctly. Two seasons in and it still looks perfect." β€” Robert P., Markham homeowner
